Eco-Council 2021-2022

ECO COUNCIL 2021-2022

The eco council is a group of children chosen from P4 - P7 who are committed to helping our school protect the environment. Our eco council has played a vital role in helping our school receive the Green Flag award. In March 2021, during the global pandemic we received the Green Flag award once more! The children's annual roles include:

  • participating in regular meetings and brain storming ideas
  • reviewing waste procedures
  • emptying the recycling bins and the food bins for each class
  • working in the poly tunnel
  • creating bin labels for every class
  • being part of a 'paperless' day
  • helping the Eco co-ordinator by organising activities for the annual 'Earth Day'. During this day, every April, each class celebrates by exploring the outdoors, tidying the school, picking up the litter, becoming eco warriors and looking at ways of achieving a cleaner and greener environment.
  • visiting the Colin Neighbourhood Partnership Allotments

Eco - Council 2018-2019

Article 12: You have the right to an opinion and for it to be listened to and taken seriously

Our eco council is a group of children chosen from each class from P4 to P7 who are committed to helping our school protect the environment and engage in environmentally conscious activities. Our eco council has been vital to helping our school receive the Green Flag Award, making our school an Eco School.

This year, we will be focussing on building our school polytunnel into a space for growing produce and other plants and on reducing the amount of paper we use in our school.

Notable dates:

October 16th - Visit from Colin Neighbourhood Partnership Allotments to P5A to prepare polytunnel and learn about healthy eating

October 23rd - Visit from Colin Neighbourhood Partnership Allotments to P5C to prepare polytunnel and learn about healthy eating

October 24th - Christ the Redeemer Paperless Day

Keep your eye out in the newsfeed for the celebration of these days!

Eco-Council 2017-2018

The members of the Eco Council are elected at the beginning of each school year and there is a representative chosen from each class in primaries 4-7. The Eco Council complete an Environmental Review at the beginning of each school year to decide which areas we are going to tackle in the year ahead and an action plan is then formed. A class from each year group give ideas for our Eco Code and the Eco Council then create a code using the suggestions.

This year our big focus is on three areas.  They are

  • waste,
  • biodiversity/outdoor learning
  • healthy living.

Green Flag Number 4

The school has recently been awarded a fourth Green Flag. The assessors were very impressed with the work of the Eco Council and the whole school. On behalf of the Eco Council can we say congratulations to everyone, pupils, parents and staff for all the effort they have put in.
